our pantanal story
The Pantanal in Brazil is widely recognized as an outstanding location for wildlife photographers seeking remarkable shots. After experiencing a successful visit last year, we felt a strong urge to return and delve deeper into this captivating region. The unique ecosystem and annual flood cycle of the Pantanal provide exceptional opportunities for observing wildlife.
The highlight of our Pantanal adventure was undoubtedly the stunning Hyacinth Macaw. Once critically endangered due to illegal pet trade and habitat loss, these magnificent birds are now making a remarkable comeback thanks to successful breeding programs in the region. We were fortunate to spot a nesting pair, and one morning, we set up our photography gear to capture their beauty. The experience was unforgettable, and we came away with some truly lovely shots of these charming creatures.
Most photographic subjects are conveniently located near well-situated lodges and fazendas. During the trip, we also spent time on boats, which allowed us to observe life around the wetland from a different perspective. With our five-days journey to find the magnificent Jaguar, the largest cat in the Americas, the Encontro das Aguas State Park, nestled along the Three Brothers River in the northern Pantanal, is your best chance to witness these elusive apex predators.
We looked for Jaguars as they rest in the shade, drink at the water’s edge, or stalk the river banks in search of their favoured prey – Capybaras and Caimans. Additionally, we encountered multiple family groups of Giant Otters.
